United States of America Statement at the
Universal Periodic Review of Tuvalu
44th Session
Delivered by Kaitlin Sandin
Thank you, Mr. Vice President.
The United States stands with the Tuvaluan people as they work to build a prosperous future for all. We call on the government to reject discrimination in all its forms and we urge the government to take the steps necessary to ensure protections of human rights both in the workplace and in private life.
In the spirit of cooperation, We recommend that Tuvalu:
- Repeal laws that criminalize same-sex sexual conduct.
- Further develop and enforce legislation to prevent arbitrary or unlawful discrimination in the workplace, including for members of marginalized communities.
- Become a party to the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment.
- Promote accessibility standards and accommodations to better serve persons with disabilities.
I thank you.
