Interactive Dialogue with Special Rapporteur on Rights to Water and Sanitation, Mr. Pedro Arrojo-Agudo
Human Rights Council – 54th Session
Statement by the Delegation of the United States of America
As Delivered by Alexandra Wise
Thank you, Mr. Vice President.
And thank you, Mr. Special Rapporteur, for your report.
Water is life. It is essential to everything we do: cooking our meals, raising our children, growing crops, and stopping the spread of disease.
Sustainable Development Goal 6 is central to meeting all of our Global Goals. Without safe and accessible water and adequate and equitable sanitation, individuals are unable to live healthy, fulfilling lives.
Our goal is to improve health, prosperity, stability, and resilience through sustainable and equitable water resources management and access to safe drinking water, sanitation services, and hygiene practices.
Last year, President Biden released the White House Action Plan on Global Water Security, which lays out an innovative, whole-of-government approach to address the full scope of global water and sanitation issues. The Action Plan will mobilize the United States government around concrete actions to achieve the U.S. vision of a water-secure world.
Let us work together to make SDG 6 a reality for all.
Mr. Special Rapporteur, what additional steps can this Council take to work towards the effective implementation of SDG 6?
I thank you.
