High Commissioner Oral Update and Reports on OHCHR Activities in Colombia, Guatemala, Honduras, and Other Updates

Statement by Ambassador Michèle Taylor
Delegation of the United States of America

Human Rights Council – 52nd Session

The United States appreciates today’s update on OHCHR’s critical work in Colombia, Guatemala, and Honduras, among other countries.

We applaud OHCHR’s efforts to advance transitional justice, promote human rights, promote and protect human rights defenders, widen civic space, and support state capacities.

We welcome the ongoing cooperation from the Colombian government with OHCHR. OHCHR’s efforts to promote human rights in Colombia serve as a model of engagement from which many countries could benefit.

In Guatemala, we echo the High Commissioner’s concerns about the persecution of judicial officials and challenges faced by women and girls in all their diversity.

In Honduras, we call on the government to investigate reported arbitrary or unlawful killings by security forces and to ensure that the state of exception ends as quickly as possible.

I thank you.
