Interactive Dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on Housing
Statement by the United States

at the 47th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council

June 23, 2021

As delivered by Patrick Elliot,
Human Rights Officer

Thank you for your presentation.

The United States recognizes that access to adequate, affordable, and safe housing is important to leading a dignified life.  The United States supports the goal of making adequate housing available to all persons, including persons with disabilities.  We also support the need to promote and respect human rights in executing housing policies.  The U.S. remains dedicated to expanding access to adequate, affordable, and safe housing to all our communities and to eliminating barriers to adequate housing, including racial and ethnic discrimination, homelessness, and other issues exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

We look forward to continuing our work within the UN system, including the Human Rights Council, and with countries around the world to improve adequate housing.

My question is: What are your views on how governments can engage with businesses and other private sector actors to achieve adequate housing-related goals?”
