U.S. Statement at the Universal Periodic Review of Saint Kitts and Nevis

37th Session
Geneva, January 27, 2021

As delivered by Sean Mariano Garcia

The United States welcomes the Saint Kitts and Nevis delegation.

We recommend Saint Kitts and Nevis:

  1. Establish a crisis hotline to assist victims of domestic violence, report domestic violence to law enforcement, and improve protections from domestic violence including emotional abuse.
  2. Decriminalize consensual same-sex sexual activity between adults by repealing Sections 56 and 57 of the Criminal Code.
  3. Pass a law explicitly prohibiting discrimination against all persons with disabilities.

We commend Saint Kitts and Nevis’ continued commitment to the promotion of human rights. Improvements can still be made for the protection of children, especially those who experience abuse.
