U.S. Statement at the UPR of the Federated States of Micronesia

U.S. Statement at the Universal Periodic Review of the Federated States of Micronesia

37th Session
Geneva, January 18, 2021

As Delivered by Meryn Schneiderhan

The United States welcomes the Micronesian delegation.  We recommend the Federated States of Micronesia:

  1. Thoroughly investigate, prosecute, and punish corruption by government officials;
  1. Improve protections for victims and accountability for perpetrators of sexual assault, violence against women, and human trafficking crimes, including children trafficked for forced labor and commercial sex; and
  2. Join the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the International Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Racial Discrimination, and the International Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment.

The United States commends the FSM for taking concrete steps since its last review to combat sexual and domestic violence.  We are committed to partnering with the FSM to address these and other human rights priorities.
