A/HRC/35/L.26

Statement by the United States of America
As Delivered by Jason Mack

Human Rights Council, 35th Session

The United States is pleased to co-sponsor this resolution. We are committed to ending child, early, and forced marriage as part of our strategies to prevent gender-based violence and promote the education and empowerment of adolescent girls. Maternal health, education, food security, poverty eradication, HIV/AIDS, and gender equality are all negatively correlated with early marriage. We reiterate that while the United States fully supports the principle of voluntary choice regarding maternal and child health and family planning, we do not recognize abortion as a method of family planning, nor do we support abortion in our reproductive health assistance.
