Ambassador Robert WoodThe North Korean regime is probably the biggest threat to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation treaty (NPT), said Ambassador Robert Wood, who will head the U.S. delegation to the NPT Preparatory Committee next week in Vienna.

“This is a serious issue that needs to be dealt with by the NPT community,” Wood told journalists at the United Nations Office in Geneva April 28.    “We need to stand together in denouncing the North Korean regime for its provocations, threats and actions.  We will be focused like a laser on dealing with this issue at the PrepCom.”  Wood emphasized that the U.S. remains committed to the NPT as a cornerstone of international efforts to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons.  The U.S. Delegation heads to next week’s Preparatory Committee (PrepCom) with an open mind and a determination to build consensus within the NPT context, he said.
