December 2, 2015

President Obama announced that the seventh annual Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) will take place in Silicon Valley in summer 2016. GES 2016 will welcome the best entrepreneurs and investors from around the world and connect them with their American counterparts. Good ideas come from everywhere; however, access to capital and opportunity is not the same everywhere. Hosting GES in Silicon Valley will highlight America’s entrepreneurial spirit, but also allow American investors and entrepreneurs to see the talent, solutions, and opportunity that exist around the world.

Entrepreneurship is about individuals improving their lives and their communities through good ideas, hard work, and a little bit of luck. Success creates jobs, brings new products and services to market, and gives people a stake in seeing their local communities succeed. For populations that would otherwise struggle to find work, entrepreneurship represents a path to a stable financial future. Entrepreneurship empowers women, youth, and marginalized groups.

This Summit will highlight the innovation that exists in all corners of the United States and the world, not just in metropolitan areas and urban centers. Innovation doesn’t just exist in the big cities – people are using technology to solve for big problems that exist across the whole country and globe, from automotive and supply chain, to solutions that benefit consumers, energy and health.

The 2016 GES is the seventh annual gathering of entrepreneurs at all stages of business development, business leaders, mentors, and high-level government officials. The established tradition demonstrates the U.S. government’s continued commitment to fostering entrepreneurship around the world to build strong, prosperous, secure communities. Numerous U.S. government programs and initiatives exist to improve enabling environments and to make tools and networks available to individual entrepreneurs.
