U.S. Explanation of Vote on Resolution on the Rights of Peasants
Thank you, Mr. President. The United States remains deeply concerned about poverty, food security challenges, and the individual human rights of persons working in rural areas. Many of our bilateral and multilateral assistance programs address these issues in concrete terms that positively impact the lives of millions of individuals worldwide. However, we do not think that this resolution provides an appropriate focus for addressing the needs of persons in rural areas. We also believe the Working Group this resolution authorizes is neither an effective nor an appropriate use of the Council’s limited resources. Given these concerns, we will call for a vote and vote No. Thank you.
