We learned with great sorrow of the death of Cuban economist and former prisoner of conscience Oscar Espinosa Chepe.  He was a tireless champion for improving economic policy and human rights in Cuba, and he remained optimistic that the country he loved would experience economic prosperity and democratic governance.  We extend our most heartfelt condolences to his wife Miriam Leiva, who has lost a beloved husband, and to their family.

Mr. Espinosa will be remembered for his vision and dedication to a better future for Cuba. His legacy will endure in the inspiration he provided to the Cuban people and his admirers around the world.
