US Applauds Major UK Contribution to The Global Fund
September 23, 2013

Statement by Ambassador Eric Goosby, U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator, in Response to the United Kingdom’s Pledge to Contribute up to GBP 1 billion (USD 1.6 billion) to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria

September 23, 2013

The United States applauds the United Kingdom’s (UK) substantial pledge of up to GBP 1 billion over three years to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (Global Fund). This pledge represents a major contribution toward a successful Fourth Replenishment of the Global Fund. The U.S. government is doing its part to support this goal through our challenge pledge that asks other donors to match the U.S. government’s contribution to the Global Fund 2-to-1. The UK’s increased commitment, combined with the recent joint pledge of $750 million announced by Denmark, Norway, and Sweden for Replenishment, sends a strong message of donor confidence in the strides the Global Fund has taken, through its reforms, to more effectively and efficiently combat the three diseases.

Creating an AIDS-free generation is a shared responsibility. The Global Fund is a principal tool to make this vision a reality.
