Ambassador Sepulveda and Special Adviser Rahman to Travel to Costa Rica for the ITU Global Youth Summit

Ambassador Daniel A. Sepulveda, U.S. Coordinator for International Communications and Information Policy, and Special Adviser to the Secretary for Global Youth Issues Zeenat Rahman will co-lead a delegation to the International Telecommunications Union’s (ITU) “BYND 2013” Global Youth Summit in Costa Rica from September 8-11, 2013.

ITU, the United Nations specialized agency for information and communication technologies, is partnering with the President of Costa Rica on the Global Youth Summit.  The summit aims to capture the global voice of youth and transmit their shared concerns and proposals to world leaders, through a crowd-sourced, multimedia statement to the United Nations General Assembly session in September 2013.  The summit will bring 500 young people from around the world together – both physically and virtually – to participate in a series of workshops, presentations and conversations around four key development streams: youth employment; e-health; cyber security; and the environment.  SA Rahman and Ambassador Sepulveda will be accompanied by eight young American social entrepreneurs who will be representing the United States.

In San Jose, Ambassador Sepulveda and Special Adviser Rahman will be meeting with the Secretary General of the ITU, Costa Rica’s Minister for Science, Technology, and Telecommunications the local American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) and private sector representatives.

There will also be a press availability at 10:00 a.m. local time on Tuesday September 10th with Ambassador Sepulveda and Special Adviser Rahman at the AmCham Building in Sabana Norte.
