Acting Under Secretary Rose Gottemoeller Travels to Switzerland and Romania

Rose Gottemoeller, Acting Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security, will travel to Geneva, Switzerland and Bucharest, Romania, April 18 – 25.

From April 18-19, Acting Under Secretary Gottemoeller will travel to Geneva, Switzerland to lead the U.S. Delegation at a conference involving the five Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) nuclear-weapon states, commonly called the “P5.”  This Conference will be hosted by the Russian Federation.  The P5 will review progress towards fulfilling commitments made at the 2010 NPT Review Conference, and continue discussions on issues related to the three pillars of the NPT – non-proliferation, the peaceful uses of nuclear energy and disarmament with a focus on confidence-building, transparency, and verification experiences.

On April 19, Acting Under Secretary Gottemoeller will participate in the P5 Conference public event, “On the Way to the 2015 NPT Review Conference,” co-hosted by the PIR Center.   She will also take part in a press event that will be held at the conclusion of the conference.

From April 21-22, Acting Under Secretary Gottemoeller will travel to Bucharest, Romania to discuss missile defense cooperation and other international security issues with various Romanian officials.

On April 23, she will return to Geneva, Switzerland to participate in side meetings on arms control and international security issues at the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Preparatory Committee Conference.  She will also make the U.S. presentation at a joint U.S.-Russia hosted briefing on the implementation of the New START Treaty on April 24.
