Principle Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Populations, Refugees, and Migration David Robinson gave the keynote address at a workshop hosted by the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society in Geneva on September 21 to highlight the specific challenges faced by Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Intersex (LGBTI) refugees. Robinson set out the United States Government’s position that it is the responsibility of governments and the international community to provide LGBTI refugees with an environment where their safety and security is ensured and their rights and dignity upheld. Advancing the human rights of LGBTI individuals is a critical diplomatic goal, Robinson said. “We look forward to the day when LGBTI persons are free from persecution and violence. We know that day has not yet arrived and we remain committed to our advocacy for the human rights of all individuals.”
