Statement by Rose Gottemoeller
Acting Under Secretary for Arms Control and International Security

We are disappointed that Pakistan did not agree to the Conference on Disarmament (CD)’s Program of Work in Geneva, which would have advanced efforts to achieve a Fissile Material Cutoff Treaty (FMCT).  This goal has been repeatedly endorsed by the international community as the next logical step for multilateral nuclear disarmament. Despite this lost opportunity, we appreciate the vigorous efforts by the Egyptian CD President to move this issue forward.
