Statement by the Delegation of the United States of America

Human Rights Council 19th Session
Geneva

As Delivered by John Mariz

Thank you, Ms. Izsak, for your hard work to promote the human rights of persons belonging to minorities around the world, and for leading a dialogue on this most important issue.

The United States is deeply committed to advancing the human rights of persons belonging to minorities.  As noted in the present report, the United States believes it is essential to engage with a broad range of civil society organizations that represent and advocate for the human rights of persons belonging to minorities.  We look forward to hearing more about your planned outreach activities with minority groups, including your plan to establish a global network or caucus of minorities and NGOs from around the world.

Beyond the thematic priorities outlined in your report, are there regional priorities you will address during the course of your mandate?

During this dialogue, the United States also looks forward to hearing more about your vision on best practices to address the priorities outlined in the present report, and ways we can work together in partnership.

Thank you.
