Joint Press Release on Signing Documents
in the Joint Compliance and Inspection Commission


On July 17, 2001, in Geneva, at the Twenty-third Session of the Joint Compliance and Inspection Commission (JCIC), representatives of the United States of America, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Russian Federation, and Ukraine signed a number of JCIC documents on technical measures aimed at promoting effective implementation of the START I Treaty.

The JCIC is the forum for resolving issues relating to compliance with obligations assumed and agreeing upon additional measures to enhance the viability and effectiveness of the START I Treaty, which entered into force in December 1994.
