On October 27th, the U.S. Mission’s Green team gathered for a demonstration of the Mission’s electric bicycles (or “e-bikes”). The exhibit features 60 black-and-white portraits of individuals from tribes around the world including subjects from Australia, Bali, Bhutan, Botswana, Canada, Fiji, Haiti, Kenya, Mexico, Namibia, Peru, the United States, and Zambia.

This interactive discussion, to be webcast via CO.NX (see link below) will feature human rights activists from across the world, along with highly regarded experts in the field of social media, to discuss the importance of a free Internet to the promotion of human rights and freedom of expression.

The United States Mission to the United Nations and Other International Organizations in Geneva is pleased to announce Color in Freedom: Journey along the Underground Railroad, an exhibition of 50 paintings, etchings and drawings by Joseph Holston created to capture the struggle for freedom, and expression within the framework of the first half of the 19th century in America before the abolition of the institution of slavery. Color in Freedom will be on displayed at the Palais des Nations, Mezzanine, E Building (Access via Pregny Gate, Door 40) from November 1 through November 12, 2010.

The theme of World Environment Day 2010 is “Many Species. One Planet. One Future.” It echoes the urgent call to conserve the diversity of life on our planet. A world without biodiversity is a very bleak prospect. Millions of people and millions of species all share the same planet, and only together can we enjoy a safer and more prosperous future.

The Department of State will commemorate the 40th anniversary of Earth Day as well as the first anniversary of Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton’s Greening Diplomacy Initiative on April 21 (the eve of Earth Day, which is April 22) in the Dean Acheson Auditorium. At the event, the Department will formally launch the D.C. Forum for Greening Embassies, which will convene foreign missions to exchange ideas on environmental issues and operational practices
