Ambassador William Swing, the official United States Government candidate for Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), secured more commitments from IOM Member States for his candidacy at the 11th Summit of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) in Dakar, Senegal. This trip follows his highly successful campaign stop in Geneva at the end of February.
At the OIC Summit, Ambassador Swing met on the margins with foreign ministers and other officials and, at the invitation of Senegalese Foreign Minister Cheikh Tidiane Gadio, attended a reception welcoming OIC participants. During his visit, Ambassador Swing boosted support for his candidacy in the June 18 election.
“I am honored to have had the opportunity to meet with OIC members at this important event and hear their ideas and concerns regarding the opportunities and challenges that migration poses to their countries and regions,” Ambassador Swing said, adding, “I look forward to working closely with the OIC should I be fortunate to be elected IOM Director General.”
Ambassador Swing welcomed the promises of support to his candidacy, and said he will continue his dialogue with Member States on key migration issues in the run-up to the election.
