United States Assistance for Sudanese Refugees in Chad
The United States is pleased to announce a contribution of $17.85
million to
the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to continue
to
provide assistance and protection for over 200,000 Sudanese who
have sought
refuge in Chad as a result of the continuing conflict and deprivation
in
Darfur.
The United States has provided nearly $100 million towards appeals
from UNHCR,
the World Food Program, and partner international and non-governmental
organizations to support the Sudanese refugees in Chad since the
beginning of
the crisis in 2003. The humanitarian situation on both sides of
the border
remains fragile and additional donor support for the international
relief
effort is needed. The United States calls on other donors to respond
with
similar generosity.
